Oh my goodness, what an unusual duck. The coloring on this duck is so striking. Gorgeous iridescent feathers like a June bug, and black feet, legs and bill. I have not seen another duck quite as striking in appearance as this one.
Cayuga ducks used to be the main duck used for meat, until the White Pekin duck replaced it. This is a heavy sized duck, upwards of 7-8 pounds. It is usually kept as a show duck, but also lays a fair amount of eggs, about 120-180 per year.
And the eggs from this duck...well, at the start of the laying season, they can almost be black in color, then they start to fade to greenish, then at the end of the season, almost white. What a fascinating, wonderful duckie to have.
