Buckeye -- Upcoming Hatches

This is a new breed for 2023, and from my birth state of Ohio.  The Buckeye is a fun chicken to have on small family farms, because it is considered dual purpose, being good for both meat and eggs.  The birds lay about 175-200 brown eggs per year.  This is a good cold hardy and also tolerate heat really well, because of it's pea sized comb. 

This is a very friendly breed of chicken, and will want to follow you around.  They love to forage, and also to catch mice!  They are sometimes as good as a cat at mouse catching.
